Difference between Sports drinks

Do you know the difference between ISOTONIC, HYPERTONIC and HYPOTONIC sports drinks?

ISOTONIC  These drinks are designed to quickly replace the fluids lost through sweating. They also provide a boost of carbohydrate and are the most common drink used by athletes particularly middle and long distance runners.

HYPERTONIC  These drinks are used to supplement your daily carbohydrate intake. They contain even higher levels of carbs than Isotonic and Hypotonic drinks. The best time to take this drink is after exercise as it helps top up on your body's muscle glycogen stores.

HYPOTONIC  These drinks are designed to quickly replace fluids lost through sweating but unlike Isotonic and Hypertonic drinks they are low in carbohydrates. Hypotonic drinks target the main cause of fatigue in sport - DEHYDRATION - by replacing water and energy fast and are popular with athletes who need fluid without a boost of carbohydrate. The best time to drink Hypotonic is after a tough workout.
